ASA Print Settings and Common Problems

ASA behaves almost identically to ABS in terms of printing — same enclosure and cooling needs — but resists UV degradation much better, making it the better pick for anything that'll sit outdoors.

100-110°C

Treat ASA like ABS for cooling and enclosure requirements — minimal part-cooling fan, and an enclosure for anything beyond small parts.

Common problems

  • Warping, same as ABS

    ASA shares ABS's tendency to warp without consistent ambient heat. The same fixes apply: enclosure, properly heated bed, and a brim for extra corner anchoring.

  • Layer separation from insufficient heat retention

    Like ABS, ASA needs each layer to stay warm enough to bond to the next — reduce cooling fan use and eliminate drafts.

  • Slightly less odor than ABS, but still needs ventilation

    ASA fumes are somewhat milder than ABS but still noticeable enough that a ventilated space or filtered enclosure is worth setting up for regular use.
