FlashForge AD5X: Most Common Problems & Fixes

Most AD5X complaints trace back to the IFS multi-material system rather than the printer itself. Here's what actually goes wrong and how to fix it.

  • IFS misreads retracted filament as a jam

    The Intelligent Filament System can refuse to feed because it sees filament sitting in the guide tube from a previous retraction and mistakes it for an obstruction. Reseat the tube and check the extruder board cable connection if the board has lost communication.

  • Filament stuck at the 4-in-1 connector

    The point where all four filament paths converge is the most common physical jam location. Feed the filament through by hand to clear it, and replace the 4-in-1 guide tube if it keeps recurring.

  • Temperature spikes during tool changes

    Switching between filament slots mid-print can cause momentary nozzle temperature spikes. Keep firmware up to date, and avoid pairing filaments with very different temperature requirements in the same multi-material print.

  • More reliable without IFS engaged

    For single-material prints that don't need color/material switching, printing directly (bypassing IFS) through the touchscreen is meaningfully more reliable than routing through the multi-material system.
