Bambu Lab A1: Most Common Problems & Fixes

The A1 trades the X1/P1 series' enclosure for an open frame, which is directly responsible for its single most common complaint.

  • Warping from the open-frame design

    With no enclosure to retain ambient heat, corners of a print cool faster than the rest of the part — the single most common cause of warping on this printer. A simple draft shield or improvised enclosure helps significantly, especially for ABS, ASA, or PETG.

  • Clicking noise during filament feed

    Usually one of three things: the filament end wasn't cut cleanly, the spool is binding against its pegs, or the PTFE tube is partially blocked. Cut the filament tip at an angle, confirm the spool spins freely, and inspect the tube for obstruction.

  • Stringing and shape-holding issues

    Reported frequently enough to be one of the printer's more common complaints — the general stringing fixes (retraction tuning, temperature, travel speed) apply directly here.

  • 2024 heatbed cable advisory (early units)

    Bambu issued a service advisory for a heatbed power cable on early full-size A1 units that could degrade over time, and offered free service kits. If you have an early unit that hasn't been checked, contact Bambu support.

  • AMS Lite gives no moisture warning

    Unlike the sealed AMS on the X1/P1 series, the AMS Lite exposes spools to ambient air with no humidity alert. Hygroscopic filaments like PETG need to be dried proactively — don't wait for a warning that isn't coming.
